If you search for “oil spill” in Google now you are no longer greeted with gory images of wildlife suffocating and economic and environmental disaster along the Gulf of Mexico coast. Instead, you get this:
BP are working hard to stem the flow of oil. Currently they are burning off surface oil and have also announced that all profits from that sale of the oil they do manage to save from the broken drill hole will be used to fund environmental schemes all along the Gulf Coast.
BP have a very bad name in the USA now, with the oil spill damaging fishing and tourism in the area. Beaches are empty and fishing boats remain docked in bays. The crisis really is going to affect those around the Gulf of Mexico for a long time to come.
