Panic Attack on YouTube Leads to Hollywood Contract

This is a fantastic story of how the Internet can change someones life overnight. Fede Alvarez from Uraguay made a science fiction short and published it to YouTube. The film was called “Ataque de Panico!” (Panic Attack!) and featured giant robots and space ships invading and destroying Montevideo, the capital of Uruguay.

The film is 4 mins 48 seconds long and was made on a budget of just $300 (£186) and has so far received over 1.5 million views on YouTube.

“I uploaded (Panic Attack!) on a Thursday and on Monday my inbox was totally full of e-mails from Hollywood studios,” Fede Alvarez told the BBC’s Latin American service BBC Mundo.

We do not know how long it took Fede to make the film, but it is an amazing piece of work for one man to do as a hobby. On the small screen (i.e. YouTube) the effects look on par with many Hollywood blockbusters, plus there is a fantastic soundtrack and some excellent real life street scenes merged with the CGI.

Watch Panic Attack Here! Hopefully in a couple of years we will be able to announce the first Fede Alvarez Hollywood blockbuster!
